Japanese companies are implementing a number of major industrial projects in Turkmenistan as part of developing economic and energy cooperation. Specifically, an ammonia and urea plant, as well as a polymer plant, are planned for construction in the village of Kiyanly in the Balkan region. This was stated in a joint press release following the summit between Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi , published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

According to the document, a contract for the turnkey construction of an ammonia and urea plant in Kiyanly was signed on September 29, 2025. The current state of amine acid gas treatment plants at the Northern Balguyi and Kukurtli fields, innovative technologies for liquefied gas production, and the material and technical base for organizing rubber production in Turkmenistan were also discussed.
