At the International Conference and Exhibition &ldquo;International Transport Corridors: Connectivity and Development &ndash; 2025&rdquo; (ITTC 2025), Director General of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) Sergey Kulikov delivered a report dedicated to the role of classification societies in ensuring the reliability of the global fleet and the resilience of global logistics arteries.

Kulikov noted the fragility of global logistics arteries, emphasizing that a single vessel incident at key maritime chokepoints&mdash;such as the Suez or Bab el-Mandeb straits&mdash;can lead to global economic losses and a cascade of delays. In his view, the solution lies in shifting from reactive measures to preventive ones, where investments in the technical safety of vessels serve as direct investments in strengthening global logistics.

In conclusion, Sergey Kulikov stressed that by supporting a culture of safety and implementing innovations, classification societies act as key system integrators. In doing so, they create a reliable foundation for a safe, efficient, and responsible maritime logistics system.

On the sidelines of ITTC 2025, the Head of the Russian Maritime Register highlighted the role of transport resilience

Secretary General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) Umberto de Pretto delivered a video message to participants of the plenary session of the International Conference &ldquo;Turkmentel &ndash; 2025&rdquo; and the conference on transport corridors.

The IRU chief highly praised the foresight of Turkmenistan&rsquo;s leadership in developing the country&rsquo;s transit potential and logistics expertise, as well as its active role in promoting transport issues at the global level within the framework of the UN. De Pretto particularly highlighted Turkmenistan&rsquo;s membership in the IRU global family through its association, THADA.

IRU, the global voice of more than 3.5 million road transport operators, recognized Turkmenistan as a model for other countries in its use of harmonized international instruments. For decades, the country has been at the forefront of using the TIR system in Central Asia, and more recently, in promoting its full digitalization.

To further maximize the benefits of the TIR system, Turkmenistan has allocated priority lanes for TIR trucks at all major border crossings.

Umberto de Pretto also emphasized Turkmenistan&rsquo;s leadership at the UN. As an example, he cited Turkmenistan&rsquo;s initiation of the UN General Assembly resolution establishing the World Sustainable Transport Day, which is now observed annually on November 26.

A delegation from Turkmenistan took part in the regional conference PRECOP 29: Adaptation Planning and Adaptation Finance in Central Asia, which was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.&nbsp;

The event was an important platform for representatives of Central Asian countries to discuss adaptation measures to combat the effects of climate change and the countries&#39; readiness to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan.&nbsp;

In particular, the development of a common Central Asian strategy for an informed and structured position for the upcoming COP-29 was discussed. The participants also identified efforts to identify possible climate finance options based on national, regional and global climate finance architecture. The event was attended by delegations from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and international partners.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29 will be held in Baku. The decision was made at the plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on 11 December last year. So far, Azerbaijan has hosted many international events and conducted them honourably. Within two weeks Baku will become the centre of the world and will receive about 70-80 thousand foreign guests.
